~Steve Harris, Forever ! Tony Mills, Thanks !~
INTRODUCTION
Four persons, Steve Harris (G), Alan Kelly (Ds), Mark Padrick (B), and Paddy Mackenna (Key), had already met in the band called "Trojan" early in the 1980s. Four persons' encounter was all the beginnings to "SHY" formation. As a result of thinking that "Trojan" needs to improve the present condition, decision said that it makes TonyMills (Vo) join temporarily was made. The band name was also simultaneously changed from "Trojan" to "SHY". They thought that they would form the band which pushed forward youth modernly and melodious. They who heard "David Bowi", "Boston", "Journey", etc., and grew up started "SHY" as a band in which the influence is impressed.
A contract with a minor label
In 1982, EBONY manufactured the compilation album called "MetalWorriors". "SHY" was chosen as this album and they offered music "Tonight" behind recorded on 1st album. However, the EBONY side did not invest, but each band pays, and is manufactured, and the expense of this compilation album is assumed to have not been unable to press many for that reason. It was told that it makes an album to the "SHY" side probably because EBONY satisfied the result of the compilation album, and the "SHY" side decided to receive Tony Mills as a regular member. In the compilation album, manufacture expense became the same the payment by the side of a band although they with whom the member gathered began to record 1st album. And the completed album was "Once Bitten...Twice SHY". Although it was this album of having sold 5,000 sets, it is sales of hit nature exceptional as an indies label of those days, and, seemingly, had appeared in some indies charts. However, saying that it does not come out to a used board market considering the sales of 5,000 sheets may be telling the merit of this album.
Major Diehl's acquisition
Having hit with the indies chart will bring about a contract with RCA. A bassist will take the place of Roy Stephan Davis in 1984, and "Brave The Storm" will be made. A producer's Tony Platt will add instruction to a band, and, as a result, it will act on manufacture of this album to plus for the future of a band, and led to it to completion of 2nd album beyond 1st album. And as for the single, two sheets, "Hold On (to your love)" and "Reflections", were released. Although tour was made to UFO or Twisted Sister about live tour, it was also rare for the popularity of "SHY" not to exceed their popularity and to become the center of attention.
Encounter with the advance into the United States, and various persons
"SHY" will be crossed to the U.S., in order to record a new album. Niel Kernon
was invited to Producer, cooperation of Don Dokken etc. was obtained, track down
was performed in the Netherlands, and "Excess All Areas" was announced in 1987.
Mr. Haward Johnson of the KERRANG! magazine was saying, "SHY will be an uncanny
band if justice remains in this music industry". "SHY" is to appear in Meat
Loaf, Gary Moore, and live tour, and is beginning to serve as a band of an arena
class. The sales of the album were also beginning to increase, and I was able to
consider in Europe as if it achieved a big success.
And they participate in the "27th Reading festival" in 1987, and store a great
success. They had also almost become the timing which greets a leap greatly.
From a major label to a minor label
The sale of the album was able to go up, live tour could also be successful, and it was able to participate also in the big festival. Although "SHY" tended to greet the big leap, RCA will cut a contract with "SHY" for cost reduction. It cannot be overemphasized that this thing was subtracted to their success so far. However, "SHY" contracted with FM Records which is an indies label in 1988, in order to look for the place which works even if a contract with a major company is cut, EP "Just Love Me" containing the three live was announced, and "SHY" advertized the living thing.
Again, it is the challenge to a major label
Also fortunately, "SHY" adhering to a major label was able to gain the contract with MCA in June, 1988. Roy Tormas Baker which is an important figure producer was invited to the producer of their next album, and it was announced by the title of "Misspent Youth" in 1989. Then, although "EnuffZ'nuff", "Badlands", "SleezeBeez" and others, and live tour were performed, problems, such as internal personnel affairs of MCA, were also involved, there was not sufficient promotion, either, and sales of the album were not quite satisfactory, either. After all, a contract with MCA will also be lost in one work, and will be left to Tony Mills of vocal.
One work to which recovery was applied
A keyboardist's Roy makes the vocal of band "TROBLE" which was on the register before, and Wardy join as new vocal, and will announce "Welcome To The Madhouse" by producing of Neil Kernon in 1994. Although it was not bad in work, it became a thing completely different from the "SHY" till then, and did not call it a success in sales. And after losing Tony, the vigor of the band also damped, and "SHY" has taken down the curtain at the end of 1995.
Tony's recovery
On the other hand, Tony Mills formed "SIAM", gained the contract in 1994, and announced "The Language Of Menace." Moreover, although "Prayer" of the 2nd sheet was announced, a band will greet a dismissal as most reports about the main activities after an album announcement are not heard by it.
>>San-chan's collection of Tony Mills
The motion which was applied with activity of the actual band and left
The motion to which BMG Victor of Japan entitles "The Eternal Master Works 70's
to 80's", and it makes a noted board of those days recur came out. And May
"Brave The Storm", 1996 and "Excess All Areas" are put on the market as CD. The
former is unpublished and will be introduced for the first time in Japan. Single
record inclusion music etc. would carry out additional inclusion, and both will
upgrade, and will appear. It was especially set to "Excess All Areas" with the
release to which the uniformly good bonus track in which album music is not lost
is added. Then, even "Once Bitten...Twice SHY" of a phantom will be put on CD
and put on the market in June, 1998. PonyCanyon tried the work which unearths
the work of Ebony of those days with Neat Metal, and attained to sale. It is
kind. Moreover, it will release as what unpublished music of those days was also
unearthed simultaneously, and added it. And it entered in 1999 and Pony Canyon
and Neat Metal have put two pieces "Renegade/Live In Europe" of coupling on the
market for unpublished music and the live.
The new album (?) was announced at last in July, 1999. It is "Let The Hammer
Fall". It seems that however, the contents are not called full-scale new album.
Remake music, unpublished music, etc. are collected. It will be thought that
usual "SHY" impact became weak in the meaning said so. but seemingly all the
music recorded is them -- hard -- it is pop. If remake music is introduced, they
are "Let The Hammer Fall"(Shake The Nation) and "Love Is Just Another
Word"(After The Love Is Gone).
The announcement of a record company transfer and a new album
As for a motion of BMG Victor of the preceding clause, a motion of "Neat Metal
Records" of its native country serves as a trigger, and it was said that various
motions came out. It is a taking-its-hat-off thing at "Neat Metal Records"
supporting revival plays, such as a release of re-formation and an album. And
they appear in the motion which gains new Diehl not as the past band but as a
future band. It was a contract with up-and-coming "Z Record". Tygers Of PanTang
which accomplished revival on this label, Burning Rain led by Doug Aldrich of
Origin LION, etc. are the labels in which the barrel band has jostled so.
In July, 2001, Z Record planned the big event for appeal of its label. The
omnibus live that a label artist all appears. However, it will be the last
moment and "SHY" will cancel. It is said that these they have canceled for
reasons of delay of a release of a new album although the restorative "SHY"
situation attracted attention from every country in the world. Probably, it will
be certain that a rehearsal is insufficient. When "SHY" was appearing, it
thought that the dignity of the event was also different, but it was regrettable
without the performance after all.
It is the contents of the new album released even by canceling an event to
expect an event from them who canceled from delay of a new album. However, it is
although it was saying that the sound of "SHY" changed to AOR at the interview
of Roy of those days ...
The long-awaited new single "Breakaway" was announced in November, 2001. "AOR"
which Roy was telling at the interview had become the contents which summarized
former "SHY" to the extent that it cannot be felt almost. On August 21, 2002,
the new album "Unfinished Business" was announced simultaneously in Britain and
Japan. Seemingly, they were doing admiration, when they had the work which it
did and left, as the title showed. As language, the contents of the album are
not "AOR", are summarizing old "SHY", and "SHY" is set very much in where of the
album, and they had turned into listeners' satisfactory contents.
And the "ZRock" event was held in various places in 2002, and "SHY" has appeared
several times.
Again, it is the transfer of Label ...
They who cut "Z Record" and a contract contracted with "MTMMUSIC". circumstances
are unknown (although it seems that the artist of Z Record had transferred to
MTM very well, I felt that there were some translations) -- "SHY" was able to
make the contract with the New Deal but. This time and two members have joined.
It became the appointment from the connections of Tony called Ian Richardson<G>
and Joe Basketts<Key>, and "SHY" had become six-person organization.
Although the new album was due to put on the market in February, 2004, the album
which became in October and was put on the market at last is "Sunset & Vine".
The contents are the contents which followed the previous work mostly, and can
carry out skilled of the stable "SHY" sound. However, if it turns over,
changeless may have been a mortal wound of this album.
After an album release, the situation which does not change activity of a band a
lot is made dissatisfied, it will secede again and Tony Mills will join formally
in response to a participating request as vocal of the popular band "TNT" of
Norway.
If it is called the big occurrence of "SHY" at such time, the other activity
will not be told to the extent that "REFLECTIONS:THE ANTHOLOGY 1983-2005" was
released. Possibly the situation with right the condition of Steve Harris saying
that activity was not completed unsatisfactory also said.
The album for the first time in five years is a masterpiece which the character of resuscitation suits!
The orthodox wonderful power style member who tells Lee Small which had participated in SURVEILLANCE or PHENOMENA to the seat of the vocalist who became a vacant seat was received, and "SHY" was completed. The message which they say "The style of a band has changed nothing even if vocal changes" is putting the album title "SHY". It is thought clear that surely an album is heard. It changes into tough hard rock music only by putting the vocal of Lee on the hard pop sound which thought as important the melody line with the sadness in character with them. However, it is the sound which has employed the work of old "SHY" efficiently as it is. Although it turns out that these album all songs are listened to although there are probably naturally some persons who want to hear it by the vocal of Tony, it turns out well that it is finished on the album more wonderful than the time of Tony enrollment.
Steve Harris, Forever !
On October 28, 2011, he has been summoned to heavens by the brain tumor. It has
died, before showing the figure in Japan ...
Tony Mills, Thanks !
He has started a trip to origin of Steve by pancreatic cancer on September 18,
2019, too. Existence of cancer of Tony was published in April, 2019, but He was
announcing that it was dying already. And before he shows its form in Japan in a
short period as 5 months, too, I have died...
It was possible to connect with Tony by divine protection of my friend and
Facebook in a wonderful thing, and I have also admitted this site from Tony.
Moreover, himself introduced in his Facebook, Thank you very much! Tony.
They'll be existence of Steve Harris and magic divine protection by the
combination with Tony Mills that SHY is SHY. I'd like to be thankful that they
have offered good Hard Pop. And I want you to sleep peacefully. Thank you very
much, Steve! And Tony! When they cry, I'm certain that a large number of works
will keep being brilliant forever forever.
